Padel Club

The University of Edinburgh Padel Club are excited to bring padel to Edinburgh for our third official year!

Welcome to the University of Edinburgh Padel Club!

We're back for our third official year in 2026/27, and this is shaping up to be our biggest and best season yet.

After two incredible years of growth, unforgettable socials, competitive success and amazing tours, we're ready to take things to the next level. Whether you've never picked up a padel racket before, you're just figuring out what the sport is, you're looking to improve your game, or you want to compete against the best young padel players in the country, there's a place for you at UOE Padel Club.

We're proud to be one of the fastest-growing sports clubs at the University of Edinburgh, with a welcoming and inclusive community at the heart of everything we do. Alongside plenty of time on court, we've built an incredible social scene where you'll meet people from all years, courses and abilities. From weekly socials and club nights to domestic tours and international trips, there's always something happening both on and off the court.

Whether you're here to make friends, stay active, improve your game or represent Edinburgh in competition, we'd love to have you involved.

Now Open to Students Across Edinburgh!

For 2026/27, we're excited to open UOE Padel Club to students from universities across Edinburgh. That means students from The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, Heriot-Watt University, Queen Margaret University and SRUC can now join the club and get involved.

Membership

UOE Padel Club membership for 2026/27

Your membership gives you access to our members-only sessions at heavily subsidised prices, meaning you can play regularly for a fraction of the cost of booking a court independently.

For example:

  • Weekly Social Padel — £3 for 2 hours

  • Competitive sessions — £5 for 1½ hours

  • Free racket and ball hire at our club sessions

Membership also gives you access to our full schedule of socials, coaching opportunities, tours, internal and external tournaments, exclusive prize draws and opportunities to represent the University of Edinburgh in competitive university padel.

Membership does not mean that all sessions, tours or tournaments are completely free — rather, it gives you access to the club's programme and our heavily subsidised member prices.

Social Padel

Our weekly Social Padel sessions are fun, relaxed and incredibly beginner-friendly, making them the perfect place for anyone looking to pick up the sport, improve their game and become part of our fantastic club community.

Whether it's your very first time stepping onto a padel court or you've played a handful of times before, everyone is welcome. Our sessions are designed to be social, inclusive and low-pressure, with plenty of opportunities to meet new people while enjoying one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.

As a UOE Padel Club member, you can access our Saturday afternoon Social Padel sessions at Portobello for just £3 for 2 hours, making them a heavily subsidised way to play regularly without the cost of booking a court independently. Racket and ball hire is also free for members, so you don't need to worry about having your own equipment.

Alongside our weekly sessions, there will also be opportunities for coaching focused on learning the basics of padel and developing your understanding of the game. Whether you're learning how to serve, improving your positioning, understanding tactics, or simply looking to feel more confident on court, we'll help you build the foundations to enjoy and improve at padel.

Every Saturday, we host a friendly Mexicano-style tournament, where players are mixed each round to keep games competitive, social and exciting. There are prizes up for grabs for our winners, but the main focus is always on having fun, getting involved and meeting new people.

The fun doesn't stop when the padel finishes either. We regularly organise activities afterwards, including trips to the beach (just a one-minute walk from the courts), heading to the pub, and other social events throughout the year.

All Social Padel sessions take place at Powerleague Portobello and Powerleague Sighthill.

Competitive Padel

Following another fantastic year, our competitive programme is bigger and better than ever. Whether you're an experienced tournament player or you've recently caught the padel bug, there are opportunities to compete, improve and progress throughout the season.

Our Squads

  • Men's League 1

  • Men's League 2

  • Women's League 1

Our squads are designed to cater for different playing levels, with opportunities to move between teams as players develop throughout the season.

Competitive League — £5 / 1½ HRS

This year, we're introducing a competitive league across our squads, with points on the line throughout the season. Performances will contribute towards team rankings and movement between squads, adding an extra competitive edge to every session.

As a member, you can access these members-only sessions for just £5 per 1½-hour session — heavily subsidised compared to booking a court independently.

Coaching

We will also be offering coaching from our in-house LTA Level 2 coach, helping players of all abilities develop their technique, tactics and overall game.

Represent Edinburgh — National Universities Padel League

One of the biggest opportunities within our competitive programme is the chance to represent the University of Edinburgh in the UK PADEL National Universities Padel League (NUPL) — the UK's official student padel league.

The NUPL brings together universities from across the country in a season-long competition. Universities are split into  5 regional conferences, meaning Edinburgh competes throughout the year against other universities in our Northern region, building towards the national stage.

The competition is split into Men's Division 1, Men's Division 2 and Women's Division 1,. Each university fields two pairs in each division, with players competing in fixtures throughout the season and earning points towards the league standings.

At the end of the regular season, the top-performing pairs from each regional conference qualify for NUPL Finals Day, where the best university players from around the UK come together in a national knockout competition to battle for the title. The 2025/26 competition featured 20 universities, with Finals Day bringing together 72 players for the final stage of the competition.

Players from our Men's and Women's competitive squads will be selected to represent Edinburgh in these fixtures throughout the year, making our squad sessions and internal competitive league an important pathway towards earning a place in the team.

Whether you're aiming to play your first competitive university fixture or want to test yourself against some of the best student padel players in the UK, the NUPL allows our players to represent Edinburgh on a national stage.

Trials

Men's and Women's squad trials will take place from 20–22 September and are designed to place players into the squad best suited to their current level, with opportunities to progress throughout the season.

Men's Trials

  • Sunday 20 September — 3:00–5:00 pm, Powerleague Sighthill

  • Monday 21 September — 3:00–5:00 pm, Powerleague Sighthill

  • Tuesday 22 September — 3:00–5:00 pm, Powerleague Sighthill

Women's Trials

  • Monday 21 September — 3:00–5:00 pm, Powerleague Portobello

  • Tuesday 22 September — 3:00–5:00 pm, Powerleague Portobello
